The Coastal Carolina Board of Trustees approved a 0.5 percent raise for all faculty and staff Friday afternoon.

The board passed the motion during its general session. Charles Lewis, board secretary, voted against the pay hike.

The pay raise excludes the president’s council, such as the provost and vice-presidents of certain departments. The new pay scale will cost the university $1.1 million over the next year, according to Board Chairman Wyatt Henderson.

The raises total $400,000 for faculty and $200,000 for staff, including fringe benefits, according to Doug Bell, director of media relations.

The raises will go into effect Jan. 1.
