Attention all Grand Strand beauty and barber school students: there’s a $500 scholarship waiting for you.

The SHB International Hair Studios in Conway and Sue-Ham Entertainment have partnered to issue several scholarships using part of the proceeds from “Salon Drama,” a local stage play.

The play details the life of an upcoming stylist named Shaneka who aspires to become a worldwide stylist and entrepreneur, according to Sulondia Hammond, with Sue-Ham Entertainment.

“’Salon Drama’ compels viewers to never give up on their hopes and dreams, no matter the obstacles and hardships experienced along the way,” Hammond said. “It drives the message home that regardless of where you are, you can get to where you're going, if only you possess faith, persistence, and talent.”

Part of the proceeds from the play will go to three or four beauty or barber school students, Hammond said. To qualify you must be a current barber or beauty school student and submit an essay explaining how you will benefit from this scholarship as well as any hardships you are currently enduring.

Don't miss this edgy, thought provoking, uplifting, emotional, and incredibly funny play that will leave audiences yearning for an encore.

The essay must include your name, phone number and email, as well as the name of your school, school director’s name and school’s phone number. Applications from North and South Carolina students will be accepted, Hammond said.

The play is Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Conway High School Auditorium, 2301 Church St., Conway.
