This Horry County school was just named one of the finest in SC. Here’s why
A Conway school was selected Thursday as one of the finest schools in the state by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.
HCS Scholars Academy High School was one of five schools named as 2026 Palmetto’s Finest Schools. The achievement is considered a top honor given out by the association.
The academy is located on Coastal Carolina University’s campus and was founded in 2003 as a way to provide talented students with opportunities that go beyond a traditional high school. The school’s location on CCU’s campus gives students the opportunity to participate in research and attend university-level courses, according to the school’s website.
To be considered for the honor, schools had to go through an application process where they were self-evaluated, peer reviewed and examined. HCS Scholars Academy and the other schools named demonstrated excellence in student achievement, instructional programs, professional learning communities and school culture, according to a release from the association.
“The Palmetto’s Finest award winners exemplify innovation across South Carolina,” said Quincie Moore, the association’s executive director. “They set the standard of excellence by cultivating vibrant school environments with high expectations and providing numerous opportunities for academic enrichment.”
