The school year kicks off in Horry, Georgetown counties

The new school year in Horry and Georgetown counties starts Thursday, but even those without school-aged children should be prepared.

Traffic around school zones will be heavier than usual so drivers should use caution and look out for children crossing the street. Drivers should follow all school zone speed limits – especially from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. – and prepare for an increase in vehicles on the road.

A list of Horry County Schools open houses and bus stops can be found online at horrycountyschools.net. Georgetown County open houses can be found at http://www.gcsd.k12.sc.us/.

Do you have pictures of your children on their first day back to school? Send them to Caroline Evans at cevans@thesunnews.com or share them on our Facebook page (The Sun News) and we’ll post them online.
