Elementary school student unknowingly brings gun to school in Conway, principal says
A elementary school student in Conway unknowingly brought a gun to school Tuesday, according to an email sent to parents Wednesday.
Christina Plowman-Render, the principal at Pee Dee Elementary School, said a police investigation also concluded that the child found the gun in his backpack and reported it to an assistant principal at the end of the school day.
It had been placed in there by a family member on accident, according to the letter.
It is not clear if the gun was loaded.
The gun was taken by officials and given to the school security officer, the letter states.
The student’s age or grade was not disclosed.
An initial email had been sent to parents after school Tuesday alerting them about the incident. The follow-up email was sent Wednesday morning.
No additional details have been released.
