Horry County has its third National Blue Ribbon School in the past four years

Ocean Drive Elementary School is the latest school in Horry County to be named a National Blue Ribbon School, the highest honor a school can receive from the U.S. Department of Education.

The school, located in North Myrtle Beach, earned the distinction for Exemplary High Performance, which means its students ranked in the top 15% on state assessments for English, language arts and mathematics, according to a HCS news release.

The district has now had a school receive the honor three of the past four years, with Ocean Bay Elementary and HCS Early College High School winning in 2019 and 2017, respectively.

Ocean Drive Elementary is one of just six schools in South Carolina named a Blue Ribbon School among 367 nationwide. A virtual ceremony will be held Nov. 12-13 to honor the winners.
