Horry County Schools delays meeting to determine reopening plan due to Hurricane Isaias

Students, parents and staff at Horry County Schools will have to wait a little longer to learn the district’s final plan to reopen after Monday’s board meeting was delayed in anticipation of impact from Hurricane Isaias.

The meeting, where board members are scheduled to vote on submitting a final plan to the South Carolina Department of Education, will now be held 6 p.m. Tuesday at the district office, according to a district email.

HCS is one of just a handful of school districts in the state that hasn’t received final approval for its plan to return to school. The board did previously vote to delay the start of the school year from Aug. 17 to Sept. 8.

Public schools have been closed since mid-March in an effort to reduce the spread of coronavirus. State officials recently announced all children and staff within public school buildings will be required to wear face coverings.
