Here’s how Horry County high schools will celebrate Class of 2020 graduations
Horry County Schools board voted to allow high schools to plan in-person graduation ceremonies, but gave each schools’ principals the power to decide certain details.
Principals were given the option for all senior students in each class to celebrate together or split them up, allowing for more families to attend. Options for location included school gymnasiums, auditoriums or outdoor football stadiums.
Here’s how the Class of 2020 at each school will be celebrating:
- Aynor High School- A whole group ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. June 3 on the football field, and graduates will be allowed to bring two guests. Graduates may also choose to schedule an individual ceremony if they’re not comfortable gathering in a large group.
- Carolina Forest High School- They will be giving each student an option to be part of a small group graduation, individual graduation or not participate. Both ceremony options would be held in the gymnasium with social distancing guidelines observed. Graduates will be allowed to invite two guests to the small group ceremony or up to eight immediate family members to the individual ceremony. Students must submit their preference on a Google form by midnight Friday, May 15.
- Conway High School- Students will be allowed to choose between graduating with their classmates at 9 a.m. June 2 on the football field with two guests or schedule a time for an individual ceremony with up to eight guests. Students may also choose not to walk in graduation and can schedule a time to pick up their diplomas after June 2. A form will sent to each senior’s email address Friday and will need to be returned by Monday.
- Early College High School- Seniors can choose between participating in a whole group graduation ceremony at 8 a.m. June 3 at Carolina Forest High School with two guests or schedule an individual ceremony May 26-28 at Early College High School with up to eight guests. Students must submit their preference via Google Form by 3 p.m. Monday.
- Green Sea Floyds High School- Graduates will be able to either participate in a ceremony at 10 a.m. June 3 with all their classmates and two guests in the school’s gymnasium or schedule a time to walk across the stage individually with up to eight immediate family members. Students can also choose not to participate in any kind of ceremony.
- Loris High School- Graduates can either participate in a ceremony at 9 a.m. June 2 with their classmates on the football field with two guests or schedule an individual graduation with up to eight immediate family members. Students can also choose not to participate in any kind of ceremony.
- Myrtle Beach High School- Students will be able to participate as a large group at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, an individual ceremony with friends and family, or view a virtual ceremony. More details will be available soon.
- North Myrtle Beach High School- Graduates may participate in a ceremony at 9 a.m. June 2 with their classmates on the football field with two guests or schedule an individual graduation in the auditorium with up to eight immediate family members. Students can also choose not to participate in any kind of ceremony.
- Socastee High School- Graduates may participate in a ceremony at 9 a.m. June 3 with their classmates on the football field with two guests or schedule an individual graduation with up to eight immediate family members. Students can also choose not to participate in any kind of ceremony. A virtual graduation will also be produced and shared with the public.
- St. James High School- Graduates may participate in a ceremony at 10 a.m. June 2 with their classmates on the football field with two guests or schedule an individual graduation with up to eight immediate family members. Students can also choose not to participate in any kind of ceremony. A virtual graduation will also be produced and shared with the public.
- Academy for the Arts, Science, and Technology- Senior ceremonies will be held May 26. May 27 and May 28 with options for each graduate to participate in a small group ceremony with two guests or individual ceremony with up to eight immediate family members. Students can also choose not to participate in any kind of ceremony.
- Academy for Technology and Academics- Senior ceremonies will be held on an individual basis, and more details will be emailed to students Friday.
- Scholars Academy- Students celebrating senior ceremonies will have the option to participate in a small group celebration May 27 at the Academy for Arts, Science, and Technology with two guests or an individual ceremony by appointment May 28 with up to eight immediate family members at a stage in the commons area at Scholars Academy. Students can also choose not to participate in any kind of ceremony.
