Horry County Schools students won’t have new assignments to complete after May 15

Horry County Schools’ students won’t have any new assignments to complete after May 15, according to the district’s superintendent.

Rick Maxey announced the decision during Monday’s virtual school board meeting in light of state officials giving school districts flexibility during the final two weeks of the school year. South Carolina public K-12 schools have been closed since March 16 due to coronavirus and will remain closed through the end of the school year.

Maxey told board members the plan, which has been approved by the state Department of Education, will allow students to continue turning in assignments and receiving support from teachers until the end of the school year, which is June 3.

Support services for students with special needs and English learners will also continue through the end of the school year, he added.
