Here’s a dark place to watch Wednesday’s meteor shower

Looking for a place to watch the Geminids Meteor Shower away from the lights?

Horry County Schools’ Playcard Environmental Education Center will host a viewing party from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. with astronomer William Johnson. An RSVP is not required.

According to National Geographic, the shower is “one of the best shooting star shows of the year,” and will be visible Wednesday night and Thursday morning, when viewers can see “dozens of meteors” per hour.

And viewing conditions will be good, with the forecast calling for a clear night sky and low temperatures in the mid-30s, according to AccuWeather.

The center is located at 10729 West Highway 19 in Loris.
