Myrtle Beach man told police he found gun his former neighbor used to assault him
A man who told police that his former neighbor hit him with a gun about two weeks ago reported that he found the rifle used in the assault, but forgot to call authorities about it until recently, according to a police report.
Officers were called about 7:30 p.m. Monday to a home on the 1200 block of Sessions Street, off Highway 15, where a 29-year-old victim followed up with police about the incident that occurred Feb. 27, authorities said.
Officers were first called about 1 a.m. to the home when the victim made the report following the attack.
The victim told police he heard someone knocking at his door and yelling outside. When he opened the door, he recognized his 21-year-old former neighbor, who had walked back to his car and was loudly arguing with a woman who was with him.
The victim said he asked them to stop being so loud, and the alleged attacker grabbed a rifle from his car and threw it at the victim, hitting him in his left shoulder, according to the report.
Police said the victim told them that he then fell on the porch and the alleged attacker pushed him into a glass door, causing the door to shatter and fall off the hinges.
The victim told police he found the rifle the alleged attacker used in the bushes near his house the next day, but didn’t call to turn it in because he forgot.
Authorities said they were not sure if it was the rifle used in the assault because so much time has passed since the incident.
