Myrtle Beach police said drugs were found on man during traffic stop

A man was arrested and charged with driving under suspension and given a citation for simple possession of marijuana after police said he failed to dim his high beams when passing them while driving down Kings Highway, authorities said.

Police stopped Devonte Singleton, 19, about 4 a.m. Saturday at Fourth Avenue North and Chester Street. Officers said Singleton and a passenger appeared “very nervous” when they were stopped, according to a police report.

Police said Singleton told them that he was coming from his hotel room and was just looking for a place to eat. Officers said they saw trash bags from a fast food restaurant and an ice cream drink in the car console, which was not melted.

Authorities ran Singleton’s information and said he had a suspended driver’s license due to an unpaid traffic ticket. Singleton told officers he had “weed” in his pocket before they found it during a routine search, according to the report.

Singleton was taken to the Myrtle Beach Jail. He was given a citation for failure to dim headlights in addition to the drug citation, police said.
