North Myrtle Beach firefighters stop fire from spreading to building

North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue crews kept an outdoor fire at a building from spreading Tuesday night by quickly putting out the blaze with fire extinguishers.

Crews were called out about 10:30 p.m. to a structure fire on the 2200 block of S. U.S. 17 with visible flames, according to a Facebook posting from the NMBFR.

Arriving firefighters reported a palm tree and landscape outside the building was on fire, and they were unsure if the blaze had spread further, and quickly used fire extinguishers to squelch the outdoor fire.

The building suffered minor exterior damage from fire and smoke, which was removed from two floors of the building, but there was no fire inside the building itself, officials said.

Crews worked at the building for hours to ventilate it and assisted the business and building owner before wrapping up at the scene just before midnight, authorities said.
