Man charged after man, woman assaulted following argument over money

A 25-year-old man is charged with robbery, assault, and burglary after police said he fought with friends over money owed.

Heath Traylor of Garden City was arrested Tuesday and is charged with strong robbery, second-degree burglary, and third-degree assault in connection with the incident, J. Reuben Long Detention Center records show.

Horry County officers were called the afternoon of July 17 to an assault at a home on the 400 block of Cambridge Circle in Garden City and quickly found a 42-year-old man and 40-year-old woman who had minor injuries, police said.

The front door of the home had also been damaged, police said.

The 42-year-old man said he borrowed $20 from Traylor while at a bar the night before, and that Traylor came by uninvited to collect the money, according to a police report.

The victim said he let Traylor and another male suspect inside and an argument over the money and how much was owed ensued, authorities said.

The victim said he gave Traylor $20, but the other suspect told the 42-year-old male victim he owed $50 instead, the report states.

The suspect with Traylor, who was identified in the report as a man in his mid twenties, allegedly began punching the male victim, police said.

The male victim said both Traylor and the other suspect dragged him outside and tried to steal his wallet.

The 40-year-old female victim got in between the suspects and was somehow able to get her and the male victim back into the home and locked the door, police said.

Suddenly, the front door was forced open and both suspects began punching the victims, the report states.

Traylor remained jailed Wednesday afternoon at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $8,000 bond, records show.
