Two men face shoplifting charges in Myrtle Beach
Two men are facing shoplifting charges after police say one of them tried to swindle more than $70 in groceries out of Wal-Mart and another man admitted he couldn’t pay for a drink he drank at Food Lion.
Jeffrey Craig Whiteaker, 47, of Myrtle Beach was charged with shoplifting after a Wal-Mart loss prevention officer told police she saw Whiteaker placing items in Wal-Mart bags.
Whiteaker continued to grab items, including tomatoes, bananas, ground beef and other groceries, until he filled a cart, according to an incident report. He then went to several different lines but backed out of each one and started to leave the store without paying when he was stopped, according to the loss prevention officer.
She told police that she and the store’s management asked to see his receipt. Whiteaker said his wife had it outside and then he attempted to flee, she said. He was detained until police arrived at the 541 Seaboard Street store around 7:46 p.m. Sunday.
Kevin Robert Oslin, 36, was charged with shoplifting after he admitted he didn’t have the money to pay for the Odwalla vanilla protein shake the Food Lion store’s manager saw him drinking on aisle 4, according to an incident report.
Police responded to the 1430 S. Kings Hwy. grocery store around 9:47 p.m. Sunday.
Oslin’s charge was enhanced due to a previous shoplifting conviction.
