A Hemingway man was arrested in Georgetown County and charged in connection with multiple sexual crimes against children.

Michael Ray Birchmore, Jr., 35, is charged with: three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, less than 11 years of age, two counts of disseminating obscene materials to a minor, 12 years of age or younger, and four counts of engaging a minor under the age of 18 for sexual performance, according to a press release from the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 6:30 p.m. on July 8, Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office deputies found and arrested Birchmore at the intersection of Ray Road and Choppee Road, authorities said.

Birchmore was wanted in connection with a complaint of sexual conduct with a minor, and he was taken into custody without incident, police said.

After investigating, additional incidents and victims were identified; and as a result, additional charges were brought against Birchmore, according to the release.

He is being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center where his bond has not been set, jail records show.
