Two charged after Myrtle Beach shooting
Two men are facing multiple charges, including attempted murder and kidnapping, following a shooting incident at a Myrtle Beach apartment Sunday that happened in front of two children, police said.
Freddie Lee Mason, whose age was not available, of Myrtle Beach is charged with three counts of attempted murder, four counts of kidnapping, one count of first-degree assault and battery, first-degree burglary, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, possession of marijuana, and possession of meth or cocaine base, according to Myrtle Beach Jail records.
Jerome Lateek Thompson, 29, of Myrtle Beach is charged with attempted murder, first-degree burglary, and kidnapping, jail records show.
Myrtle Beach police responded Sunday to an apartment on the 4500 block of Kings Highway for a shooting incident, according to arrest warrants.
Mason forced his way into the apartment, physically assaulted a female victim, pointed a gun at her and threatened her life, police said in the warrants.
Mason called another victim by name as he came down stairs while firing multiple gunshots, authorities said.
Children, ages 9 and 10, were at the top of the stairs as Mason fired, which placed their lives in jeopardy, according to warrants.
A victim was able to grab a gun and return fire at Mason, who then fled the apartment, police said.
Thompson was arrested Sunday after police said they determined he drove Mason to the apartment and parked several apartments down from where the incident happened, according to the warrants.
Police said Thompson then drove to the back parking lot of a nearby restaurant and waited for Mason, warrants state.
Authorities said Mason and Thompson worked together to enter the apartment without consent with the intent to comment a crime.
On Monday, Myrtle Beach police executed a search warrant at an apartment on the 1200 block of Pipers Point Boulevard and said they found .9 grams of marijuana and .5 grams of meth or cocaine base in a room Mason was staying in, warrants said.
Mason is being held at the Myrtle Beach Jail, and his bond has not been set.
Thompson is jailed at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, and his bond has also not been set, according to records.
