Officer tells woman to put hands behind back, instead she makes fists

Police arrested a woman found sleeping on a boardwalk bench behind the Bay View Resort Tuesday morning after officers say she put up a fight.

Myrtle Beach police were patrolling the area when they found a woman, identified as 20-year-old Julianna Zeruiyah Scott, sleeping on the bench around 11 a.m. An officer told Scott to wake up and then asked her name, but she refused to give it, according to an incident report.

The officer told her that “by law she needed to identify herself” and Scott eventually gave the name of Sara, but refused to give a last name until she was threatened with jail time, according to the report.

When the officer told Scott she was under arrest and asked her to place her hands behind her back, she “put her hands into fists,” according to the report.

The officer said he grabbed her left wrist to detain her and she punched him in the right shoulder and kicked his right leg. Another officer was also kicked in the brief struggle that ensued.

Scott, while handcuffed, continued to resist and attempted to scratch and bite the officers, according to the report. Four officers had to carry Scott to a squad car.

Scott was charged with a city ordinance that outlaws sleeping on the boardwalk, resisting arrest and assault on two officers.
