Myrtle Beach police investigating armed robbery at boardwalk
A man told police his good deed went awry when the man he gave $20 to snatched his wallet and then pulled a gun on him as he chased him near the boardwalk Sunday morning.
Myrtle Beach police officers say they were flagged down between Third Avenue North and Fourth Avenue North on the boardwalk around 8 a.m. Sunday in reference to a possible armed robbery that had just occurred. The victim told police he was walking towards the beach with a friend when two suspects approached him asking for money, according to an incident report.
The victim said he retrieved $20 from his truck and handed it to the man, who told him he would return with the victim’s change after going to the store. The victim told police that when the suspect returned he grabbed his wallet from his rear pants pocket and fled the scene.
The victim said he chased the suspect in between buildings at the boardwalk and the suspect turned around and pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at him, ordering the victim to stop chasing him, according to the report. The victim said he complied.
Police recorded the two suspects’ description and issued a report for officers to be on the lookout for the perpetrators.
The victim told police his wallet held $350, his Social Security card, South Carolina driver’s license and his military identification.
Police reviewed video surveillance footage in the area and retrieved a still photograph of a possible suspect heading southbound on Ocean Boulevard.
The male suspect was described as a white man in his mid-20’s with brown hair, who was wearing a blue shirt, khaki shorts, sneakers and sunglasses. The second suspect was described as a white female with brown or blonde hair pulled up off of her shoulders. The victim said she was wearing a purple tanktop and sweatpants with writing down the right leg.
The incident remains under investigation.
