Rickey Waddell Wilson, 68, is accused of beating an elderly woman to death inside a Myrtle Beach motel room.

A 68-year-old man has been charged with murder in the slaying of an 82-year-old woman found beaten to death in a Myrtle Beach hotel room.

Officers were called to room 211 of The Rodeway Inn at 1401 S. Ocean Blvd., shortly before noon Sunday for a report of a deceased person.

“At the time of arrival, through preliminary investigation, police determined that the deceased (woman) had severe blunt force trauma and there were signs of a struggle within the room,” according to an affidavit filed in the case.

The victim was identified as 82-year-old Virginia Harris Eakers.

An autopsy revealed that Eakers died of injuries caused by the blunt force trauma, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden.

McSpadden said Eakers moved around a lot so her hometown is unknown, but authorities suspect she had been living in the Myrtle Beach area for several years.

Rickey Waddell Wilson, 68, was arrested Monday and charged with murder.

Police say Wilson was with Eaker when she checked into the motel Friday and was “the only visitor noted to visit the victim,” according to the affidavit. “The defendant was interviewed by police detectives and he gave misinformation about his presence at the victim’s room.”

Wilson’s statements to police were disputed by video surveillance evidence and eyewitness statements, according to the affidavit.

Police say they were able to track Wilson’s movements before he arrived at Eaker’s room “as well as his suspicious behavior after having left the victim’s room.”

According to the affidavit, police found evidence on Wilson that later tested positive for the presence of blood and an officer noted that a personal item Wilson possessed before entering Eaker’s room was found in the crime scene.

Wilson is being held in the Myrtle Beach Police Department detention center and is set to appear before a judge at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
