A 22-year-old woman was found dead in a vacant lot in Longs on Monday, and police are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Horry County police were dispatched to 1700 Vera Road in Longs about 11 a.m. Monday in reference to a dead body. A complainant had gone into the empty lot to get some dirt, but turned around and called police when he noticed a “motionless” body with blood around it, according to a police report.

Shannon DiTillio was lying face up with a small puddle of blood to her right, the report said. Officers noted a blue backpack was on the ground to her left, and a red and black backpack was in the pond behind her.

DiTillio, who was pregnant, arrived in Horry County on Thursday from Buffalo, N.Y., police said. Her death is being investigated as a homicide, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

Police are asking anyone with information on where she had been staying during her visit in Horry County to call 843-915-5350 or the tip line at 843-915-8477. Horry County police are still investigating.
