Two people charged in Murrells Inlet armed robbery
Two people are in custody Tuesday in connection to a Murrells Inlet convenience store armed robbery where a suspect fired a gun.
The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office arrested Barrett Hayes Coker,18, and Ruby Carson Frykenberg, 19, for the armed robbery of the Kangaroo Convenience Store located at 658 Wachesaw Road in Murrells Inlet, according to Carrie Cuthbertson, public information officer.
Coker, of Marion, is charged with armed robbery with a violent weapon, attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Frykenberg, of Surfside Beach, is charged with accessory after the fact of a felony.
Deputies were called March 29 to the Kangaroo on Wachesaw Road where a store employee reported the incident, police said.
The employee said at about 11:30 p.m., two suspects approached the front of the store where the employee was on the phone and ordered the employee to enter the business, according to a press release.
The suspects displayed what appeared to be a handgun and demanded money, authorities said.
A witness at a traffic light saw the suspects running and quickly getting into a vehicle, and followed them up to a stop sign at Sunnyside Avenue. The person in the passenger seat leaned out of the window and discharged what the witness believed to be a handgun, according to the release.
No one was injured in the incident, police said.
Police arrested Coker and Frykenberg Tuesday around 2:30 p.m., Cutherbertson said. They are being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center awaiting bond.
