A 65-year-old man is charged with assault/attempted murder after police said he assaulted a woman then lifted another against nine-story balcony railing Thursday.
Ronald Jay Adkins was arrested in connection with two counts of kidnapping and third-degree domestic violence, in addition to the assault/attempted murder charge, Myrtle Beach Jail records show.
Officers were called about 2:45 p.m. Thursday to the 400th block of 20th Avenue North in reference to an assault. A 62-year-old woman and a 20-year-old woman reported the incident, police said.
The 62-year-old woman told authorities the man punched her in the face during an argument while they were in the living room of their apartment, according to a police report.
The 20-year-old woman stepped in between the fighting couple and began shouting at Adkins. He then pushed her into a chair and started to hit her when the other victim got between them, and Adkins punched her in the face again, authorities said.
Adkins then walked away and went into a bedroom, and the two women went outside on the balcony. Adkins came outside to the balcony and pushed the 20-year-old woman up against the railing. He then lifted her up from underneath her armpits and attempted to push her over the balcony, one of the victims said in the report.
The 20-year-old victim said Adkins told her he couldn’t wait to see her dead on the ground after he threw her over the balcony, police said.
The 62-year-old woman stepped in and the victims were able to push Adkins back into some chairs. He then went inside and locked the balcony door, preventing the victims from leaving, authorities said.
The 20-year-old woman then called her mother who lives in an apartment in the same building. The victim’s mother came in through an unlocked door, let the women inside, and took them back to her apartment where they awaited police, the report states.
Adkins was arrested Friday and is being held at the Myrtle Beach Jail where he awaited a bond hearing Saturday.
