Myrtle Beach police investigate reported purse snatching

A 30-year-old woman reported that a man snatched her purse and ran after she gave him a ride to a Myrtle Beach motel.

Officers were called about 6 a.m. Wednesday to a motel on the 400 block of 14th Avenue South where the victim and a 36-year-old male witness reported the incident, according to a police report.

The victim told authorities she was leaving work when a man asked her for a ride because he had been drinking. The suspect offered the victim $5 to take him to his motel and when they arrived, the suspect told the victim he needed to run up to his room and get the money from his girlfriend, police said.

The victim then asked the suspect if she could use his bathroom and got out of her vehicle. Once they were both out of the vehicle, the suspect allegedly grabbed the victim’s purse from her shoulder and took off running down Yaupon Drive, authorities said.

The victim said she didn’t have anything of value in her purse, but her car and house keys were inside when the suspect took it.
