One man is charged with leaving the scene of an accident after a bicyclist was hit and killed.

Laurence Flanegan, 54, of Myrtle Beach was charged Tuesday with a hit and run and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, driving too fast for conditions and failure to acquire valid tags.

Flanegan is being held at J. Reuben Detention Center awaiting bond, according to jail records.

Flanegan’s charges stem from an incident on Saturday around 6 p.m., according to Cpl. Sonny Collins with the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Flanegan was driving a 2004 Toyota SUV west on Holmestown Road in Myrtle Beach when he struck a bicyclist also traveling west, Collins said. Flanegan fled the scene but was later located, Collins said.

Vincent Gimeno, 55, of Myrtle Beach, was transported to Grand Strand Medical Center but died Tuesday from traumatic injuries, according to Tamara Willard, Horry County Deputy Coroner.

The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
