The parent of a Homewood Elementary student was arrested Thursday after arguing with school officials.

Salahuddin Oneal, 40, is charged with disturbing schools and was released from J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $5,000 bond Friday, jail records show.

Conway police were called about 9 a.m. Thursday to the school, off U.S. 701, where the principal and a school administrator reported that Oneal erupted at them during a meeting, according to a police report.

School officials were meeting with Oneal because they said he violated school policy by bringing his daughter to school late and picking her up early multiple times, authorities said.

The conversation escalated after school officials told Oneal he violated school policy, and Oneal became irate and yelled “You are evil” and “You don’t care” at officials, according to the report.

Oneal also reportedly said, “You only want to keep a black man down. You only help white folks. You break the law all the time for white folks,” the report states.

After these outbursts, Oneal left the principal’s office and started walking down a hallway outside classrooms. The principal followed him and repeatedly told him he was not authorized to be near classrooms, authorities said.

Oneal continued to ignore the principal, and an administrator told Oneal the police were on their way. Oneal told officials that police didn’t scare him then left the building.

Authorities later found and arrested Oneal. Oneal could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
