Man arrested after woman assaulted, choked at Ocean Boulevard hotel room
A 26-year-old man was arrested after a woman was reportedly beaten, threatened, and choked at an Ocean Boulevard hotel room on Wednesday.
Christopher Stephen Overbay is charged with one count of second-degree domestic violence and one count of third-degree domestic violence, Myrtle Beach Jail records show.
Officers were called about a disturbance around 12 a.m. Wednesday to a resort at 2700 N. Ocean Blvd. where a 32-year-old woman reported the incident, police said.
When authorities arrived, they found Overbay laying on the bed, out of breath and looking confused. He told police he did not feel well, didn’t remember what happened, and said he had been drinking earlier, according to the report.
The victim told police she was in bed asleep around 10:30 p.m. when Overbay grabbed her hair and ripped her out of bed. She managed to get to the bathroom where she hid until Overbay got inside and dragged her back into the room, police said.
She tried to hide between the bed and wall, but Overbay went to her and told her, “This is what you deserve,” according to the report.
She began packing her things, but Overbay grabbed her hair and threw her to the ground when she tried to leave, authorities said.
The victim said he then got on top of her and choked her and said, “I will kill you before I let you leave,” the report said.
He then dared her to call the police and didn’t stop her when she did, officers said.
She also said Overbay punched her in the face, and she believed he was upset with her because he thought she was unfaithful to him, authorities said.
The victim had red stains that appeared to be blood on her sweatshirt, had a cut lip, a bruise on her face and arm, and redness around her neck, according to the report.
EMS was called to examine the victim, and she was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center to be evaluated, police said.
Overbay’s bond was not set as of Wednesday morning, records show.
