Man in wheelchair robbed at gunpoint at Myrtle Beach apartment

A 51-year-old man in a wheelchair was robbed of $60 at gunpoint after a suspect forced him inside his Myrtle Beach apartment.

Myrtle Beach officers were called about 7:45 p.m. Monday to the Balsam Place Apartments at 934 U.S. 501 where the victim reported the incident, authorities said.

The victim told police he was sitting in his wheelchair in the doorway of his apartment smoking a cigarette when a man and woman came walking up from U.S. 501, police said.

The victim said the male suspect forced him into his home and said, “Give me your money. I know you got your check today,” and put what appeared to be a 9 mm gun in his face, which the suspect held in a sideways position, according to the report.

The victim gave up his wallet, and the suspect pulled three $20 bills from it then left it behind. A woman stood by on Balsam Street while the alleged armed robbery happened, police said.

The victim called police once the suspects left the area. Authorities searched for the suspects when they arrived, but did not find them.

The investigation is still ongoing, police said.
