Child porn reportedly found on computer dropped off for repair work in Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach police were called to an electronic store after files containing child pornography were reportedly found on a computer that was dropped off for repair work.
Officers were called about 3 p.m. Tuesday to Best Buy on Oak Forest Lane when a 29-year-old employee discovered the files and reported the incident, police said.
The employee told authorities the computer was brought in a few days prior with hard drive issues. A 21-year-old employee said he noticed “suspicious files” under recently viewed files, but didn’t look at them, according to the police report.
The computer was fixed and picked up by the offender, who dropped it off again on Tuesday for more repair work, authorities said.
The 29-year-old employee worked on fixing “corrupt files” on the computer when he noticed a file named “13 YO Girl Topless,” and the employee then told his manager and contacted police, according to the report.
After police took the employee’s statement, authorities asked the employee to show them the “suspicious files,” and officers were shown thousands of images of what appeared to be underage girls in bikinis and see-through tops, the report said.
All the pictures appeared to have been taken in a studio with a high resolution camera. Police also viewed the file that originally captured the employee’s attention and said an underage girl was shown dancing topless in the middle of the video, authorities said.
The case was handed over to the Horry County Sheriff’s Office, and they are investigating the incident, authorities said.
