Man beaten, robbed of cellphone, hygiene products, bicycle
A 34-year-old man reported he was robbed of his cellphone, bag of hygiene products, and bicycle when two men rode up on a mo-ped and assaulted him when he was leaving a Myrtle Beach store, police said.
Officers were called about 2 p.m. Thursday to a store at 908 Jackson St., off 10th Avenue North, after being waved down by someone who told them a man was being beaten up by two men in front of the store, authorities said.
As they were approaching the store, they saw one man on a lime-green mo-ped as another man hung on to the back of the mo-ped while riding a bicycle. They were headed toward U.S. 501 and were later identified as the suspects, authorities said.
Police saw the victim stumbling into the road and laying down there when they arrived. The victim told officers he was jumped by a man he knows who goes by “Bill-Bill,” but said he didn’t know the other suspect, according to the police report.
The victim told police he was headed south on Lumber Street when the suspects passed him on a mo-ped traveling the opposite direction and pulled him down by his shirt sleeve as they went by, authorities said.
The victim said one of the men came up and started kicking him and the other suspect did too and grabbed his bag of hygiene products, his cellphone, and bicycle, the report said.
The victim suffered scrapes to his knee and back, had injuries to his ribs, and blood in his mouth, but refused to be transported to the hospital by EMS, police said.
No arrests had been made by Friday morning.
