HCPD: Man forced into pond after armed robbery, carjacking; car also put in pond by suspects

A 40-year-old man told police he was beaten with a gun and forced into the trunk of his own car after being robbed at Club Faces then driven to a pond, where he was forced to get in and said the suspects put his car in the pond also.

Horry County police were responded to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where the victim was getting treatment for injuries he suffered during the assault, police said.

The victim told authorities about 10:30 p.m. Dec. 1 he was at Club Faces at 553 Jason Blvd. when a man got inside his car and pointed a handgun at his face. He said he was then pushed from his vehicle and beaten in the head with the gun by the man and four other male suspects, police said.

The victim’s wallet and car keys were taken from him before he was forced into the truck of his own car. He was let out of the truck somewhere near 10th Avenue North and Kings or Hemingway Street, authorities said.

He was then forced to enter a pond at gunpoint, and the suspects put his car in the pond also, according to the police report.

The victim crawled out of the pond after the suspects left the area and walked to the Myrtle Beach Police Department to get help, police said.

The left side of the victim’s jaw was swollen, and he had cuts on the top and back of his head, the report stated.

Police noted they checked the pond for the victim’s car, but didn’t find it at the time of the report.

Horry County police are on scene at the pond Friday morning, along with the Horry County Fire Rescue Department Dive Team to continue searching for the victim’s car, authorities said.
