Update: Police searching for several suspects in Longs shooting, one man injured

One man was shot in an overnight home invasion in the Longs area, and Horry County police are still investigating, authorities said.

The shooting happened about 3:45 a.m. Thursday at a home on Station Street, but the victim’s condition is currently unknown, Lt. Raul Denis, spokesman with Horry County police said.

Police found the 40-year-old victim laying on his stomach in a hall outside the bedroom in a pool of blood, but the victim was alert and could respond to police, according to the police report.

The 39-year-old wife of the victim told police that she was working upstairs when she came down the stairs and noticed the side door leading to the garage was slightly open, the report said. The wife said she thought the victim had left the door open since he smokes outside at night, police said.

The wife tried to close the door but felt resistance, and when she opened the door to see what was keeping it from closing a man in a dark hooded sweatshirt was standing in the doorway, the report said.

The suspect put a handgun to the woman’s head and ordered her to “get down” on the floor several times, the report said.

The woman told the suspect that she had a child upstairs and started praying loudly in hopes that her husband – the victim – would hear. Several more suspects entered the house wearing dark sweatshirts when the victim yelled “who are you?,” police said.

The female victim said the suspect holding a gun against her head was young and “had the look of fear” in his eyes, the report said.

The suspects left the house – possibly through the side door – and the victim’s wife saw the victim laying on the floor bleeding. She ran to a neighbor’s house to get help and then called 911, the report said.

Police found several shell casings on the floor near the victim and also near the side door, the report said. Police also found a handgun loaded with a magazine on the stove.

The female victim said she did not hear or see any vehicles leaving the immediate area after the incident, police said. The men are described as young, 17 to 25 years old, wearing dark clothes – possibly a dark hooded sweatshirt, according to Lt. Denis.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 843-915-8477.
