A 39-year-old man was arrested after allegedly taking a chainsaw from a Myrtle Beach business and was chased down by witnesses who detained him until police arrived.

Steven W. Baker is charged with second-degree burglary and public intoxication after a witness allegedly saw him take a chainsaw from a business warehouse near Highway 15, authorities said.

Police were called about 6:20 p.m. Monday to a yard on the 2000 block of Highway 15 where witnesses were holding Baker, according to a report.

The 27-year-old witness who allegedly saw the theft said he confronted Baker who ran off with the chainsaw. The witness and a 29-year-old man chased after Baker, police said.

The witnesses caught up with Baker and detained him until police got to the scene, according to the incident report.

The chainsaw was found in the area Baker ran through, and it was returned to a 50-year-old male victim, police said.

The victim also told police he was missing a 9 mm diamond-back handgun from his warehouse safe.

Baker was being held at the Myrtle Beach Jail on $178 bond for the public intoxication charge, but bond was not set for the burglary charge by Tuesday morning, according to jail records.
