Suspect made off with pretzels, cigarettes in Conway robbery
Horry County police are searching for one person in connection to an armed robbery at a Conway convenience store Tuesday.
Officers responded to the Sunhouse Convenience Store at 2698 Hwy 90 in Conway around 8 p.m., according to Lt. Raul Denis with Horry County police.
A female clerk told police the doors of the store were locked but she usually lets customers inside if she recognizes them, the police report said. The suspect was standing outside talking on a cellphone for “some time” before knocking on the store’s door.
The clerk said the suspect looked familiar so she opened the door, and the suspect walked behind the counter while demanding money, the report said.
The suspect was holding a butcher’s knife and threatened to “cut” the clerk if she did not open the cash drawer, the report said. The suspect threw a cash register to the floor and continued to demand money, police said.
The suspect grabbed some cash from a change box, two cartons of cigarettes and several bags of pretzels before fleeing the store, the report said.
No one was injured during the robbery, Denis said.
The suspect is described as a white male, 30 to 35 years old, about 5 ft. 6 in. tall with a tattoo of a possible Chinese symbol under his right eye. He was wearing a toboggan, a dark long sleeved shirt, and jeans, Denis said.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 843-915-8477.
