Car chase with police ends on Myrtlewood Golf Club
Two youths were arrested after a police chase in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday that ended near the 16th hole of the Myrtlewood Golf Club.
One unnamed juvenile and 18-year-old Austin Dale Hagee were arrested and charged with possession of stolen property -- the white Chrysler they had been driving, according to a Myrtle Beach police report. The juvenile was also charged with unlawful possession of prescription drugs, identified in the police report as Seroquel.
The chase began about 1:30 p.m. at Fifth Avenue North and North Kings Highway after a Myrtle Beach police officer spotted the vehicle that he believed matched the description of a car stolen from Fayetteville, N.C,, the incident report said.
When the officer attempted to stop the car, it sped away at a high rate of speed -- through stop signs and red lights -- and the youths continued to elude police for several miles before taking the chase onto the golf course, the report said.
The two youths abandoned the car at the 16th tee box and fled on foot. The juvenile was quickly caught after he “put his hands in the air, and then ran into the pond,” the report said. Hagee was apprehended a short time later.
When police searched the juvenile, they found keys that matched a stolen Buick Encore that was also recovered. A set of keys to the stolen Chrysler was also found in the juvenile’s backpack, as well as in the ignition, the report said.
The young offender will be charged in juvenile court. The report noted that he was also wanted by police in Fayetteville for stealing the car, and will be extradited and charged there for larceny.
In addition to the possession of a stolen vehicle charge, Hagee has been charged with reckless driving, failure to stop for blue lights, and resisting arrest.
