Man arrested in connection with exposing others to HIV virus
A 45-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection with exposing others to the HIV virus after an investigation revealed he had unprotected sex, police said.
Monti Ray Davis is charged with two counts of exposing another to the HIV virus, records show.
Davis was arrested about 7:55 p.m. Thursday near the 100th block of North Ocean Boulevard, but further details on his arrest were not available, according to jail records.
On Sept. 26, officers were flagged down in reference to an assault that happened in Myrtle Beach, and an investigation revealed the victim and Davis had unprotected sex between Aug. 26 and Sept. 25, an arrest warrant stated.
Afterward, the victim told police she “got suspicious” of Davis and searched his name on the Internet, according to the arrest report.
The victim found information online showing Davis had been convicted of exposing others to the HIV virus.
In the second incident, police were called on Oct. 8 to a hotel on the 2700 block of Ocean Boulevard in reference to an assault.
After investigating, police learned the victim met Davis on an Internet meeting site and between Oct. 4 to 6 the victim and Davis engaged in sexual intercourse at locations within the city, the warrant stated.
The victim then lost contact with Davis and did an Internet search on him and learned he had a prior conviction for exposing others to HIV, police said.
Medical records confirmed Davis’ HIV status, and an investigation into his criminal history revealed he has a prior conviction for exposing others to HIV, authorities said.
Davis is being held at the Myrtle Beach Jail on $100,000, authorities said.
