A Coastal Carolina University employee is accused of allegedly embezzling over $50,000.
Kristine Ann Connery, 48, Myrtle Beach, voluntarily surrendered Friday and was booked at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on charges of embezzlement of public funds.
According to a police report from the Coastal Carolina Police Department, university officials met Oct. 29 to discuss results of an audit on Connery’s university credit card.
The information was then turned over to a Coastal Carolina University police investigator.
The investigation determined that purchases totaling $53,858 were made for personal use at several businesses in Conway and Myrtle Beach between January and October.
According to the report, Connery confessed to the theft during police interviews.
Connery was issued the credit card to make purchases for the school as an administrative specialist for the Visual Art Department at the Edwards College of Humanities/Fine Arts.
