Man arrested after police chase began in Conway and ended near Carolina Forest
A North Carolina man was arrested early Wednesday morning after reportedly colliding with a police car in Conway and being involved in a police chase that ended near Carolina Forest.
Joseph Tobiah Thomas, 22, of Charlotte N.C., is charged with failure to stop for blue lights, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, possession of stolen property, possession of stolen auto and also has additional charges pending, according to Capt. Tammy Carter with the Conway Police Department.
Conway officers responded to Murphy Express on 2735 Church Street after getting a call about a possibly stolen vehicle out of North Carolina, police said.
Authorities saw the vehicle in the convenience store parking lot with two people inside and when officers approached, the suspect placed the vehicle in reverse and collided with the officer’s car before fleeing the scene, Carter said.
Conway police, with the help of Horry County police, stopped the vehicle on U.S. 501 near Carolina Forest and arrested Thomas, authorities said.
Police are still looking for the second suspect.
Thomas is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center, and his bond as not been set.
