Woman shot in the leg during home drive-by in Conway; Horry County police investigating
A couple thought they were hearing fireworks outside their Conway home until a 34-year-old woman fell to the floor after being hit in the leg by a bullet, police said.
While in route, dispatchers told Horry County police they heard gunshots being fired in the background as they were speaking with a caller who reported the incident, authorities said.
Officers were called about 7 p.m. Monday to a home on the 5000 block of Ruby Lane in Conway to investigate a drive-by shooting, according to Lt. Raul Denis, Horry County police spokesman.
A 39-year-old man told police his girlfriend had been shot in the leg. She was lying on the kitchen floor, bleeding from her left leg when authorities found her, according to a police report.
EMS arrived and treated her before taking her to Grand Strand Medical Center, and she is expected to recover from her injury, Denis said.
She told police she was standing in the kitchen when she heard what she thought were fireworks, but turned out to be gunshots.
The male victim told police once he realized he was not hearing fireworks, he stayed on the ground inside his home until the gunfire was over, authorities said.
The victims didn’t see a vehicle, but said they heard one speed away after the gunshots were fired, police said.
Horry County police are continuing to investigate the incident and said anyone with information can call them at 843-915-8477. Information can be left anonymously, police said.
