Police investigate apartment break-in after $6,000 reportedly taken

Police are investigating after someone forced their way into an apartment and took $6,000 and a gaming console.

Myrtle Beach officers were called about 1 p.m. Monday to an apartment building on the 500 block of Pinewood Road where three victims reported the incident, according to a report.

Upon arrival, the door to the apartment was open and the molding was lying on the ground because a suspect had kicked the door in or used some other hard object to force their way inside, police said.

Two 29-year-old men and a 22-year-old woman live at the home and said they had all left by 10:45 a.m. that morning. One of the 29-year-old men came back about 1 p.m. had saw the apartment had been burglarized, authorities said.

The female victim said her bedroom had been “turned outside down,” and all the contents of her dresser had been dumped out, the mattress flipped over, and the closet obviously rummaged through; however, she couldn’t say if anything was missing from her bedroom, according to the report.

The other victims said their things had been looked through, and one of the men said his Sony Playstation gaming console, valued at $200, had been taken, authorities said.

The female victim also said $6,000 in $20 and $100 bills was missing, police said.

A witness told police he saw a man walking through the complex carrying a full bag. He asked the man where he was coming from, and the witness said the man pointed toward the victims’ home, authorities said.

The witness said the man looked like a contract painter, so he didn’t assume anything suspicious.

There are no security cameras nearby, and the victims did not want the scene processed by crime scene investigators, according to the report.

No arrests were made by Tuesday morning.
