A Pawleys Island man was arrested in connection with impersonating a public official after police said he responded to emergency calls.

Erik Allen Weddell, 47, of Camden Circle in Pawleys Island is charged with one count of impersonating a public official, authorities said.

Weddell is not affiliated with any fire departments in Georgetown County; however, he responded to fire, water rescue, and other emergencies in the area, reportedly driving recklessly with emergency lights and a sound device, police said.

Weddell was arrested Monday by Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office authorities and is currently awaiting a bond hearing at the Georgetown County Detention Center, jail records show.
