Update: 1 arrested in connection to gunshot victim at hospital

One man is charged with attempted murder in connection to a gunshot victim who turned up at a local hospital Thursday.

Courtney D. Gause, 24, of Longs was charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, according Lt. Raul Denis, Horry County police spokesman.

Officers were called about 8 a.m. to McLeod Seacoast Hospital after a 53-year-old man who suffered a gunshot showed up in the emergency room, police said.

The victim was alert and could identify the suspect, Denis said.

The shooing occurred on Sweet Bay Road in Longs, Denis said, and the suspect surrendered to police after a few hours. The victim is expected to recover from his injuries, Denis said.

Gause is being held at J. Reuben Detention Center awaiting bond hearing.
