Police: Wanted man dies of apparent self-inflicted gunshot at Myrtle Beach hotel
Myrtle Beach police are investigating a shooting at a downtown motel.
Officers responded to the Sand Dollar Motel, 401 6th Ave. N. around 9 a.m. Wednesday in report of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle “was connected to a wanted, armed and dangerous suspect,” according to Lt. Joey Crosby, with Myrtle Beach police.
The suspect connected to the stolen vehicle was wanted for armed robbery, burglary, weapon violations and stolen property offenses, Crosby said.
Officers discovered the suspect was registered to room 209 at the hotel. Police knocked on the door to room 209 and asked the suspect to come out, but there was no response, Crosby said.
A few seconds later officers heard one gunshot come from inside the room, Crosby said.
Officers opened the door with a key – given to them by hotel management – and found the suspect laying on the ground “with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Crosby said.
The name of the suspect is being held until the next of kin is notified, Crosby said.
