MBPD: Hotel clerk chased robbery suspect after money taken

A hotel clerk chased a robbery suspect after the suspect allegedly took hundreds of dollars from a Holiday Inn Express register, authorities said.

The 26-year-old hotel clerk was told to “get back” by a masked man after the man reportedly jumped behind a counter where the clerk was counting cash and took $231, according to a police report.

Myrtle Beach officers were called about 10:10 p.m. Monday to the hotel on 3100 Oleander Drive where the clerk told authorities the suspect came into the business and walked aggressively toward the counter where the victim was counting cash, police said.

The victim said the suspect was wearing a black-and-white scarf over his face and was carrying a metal car-jack pipe, and the victim said the suspect raised the pipe over his head as he told the victim to move aside, authorities said.

The victim said the suspect took the cash right out of the register before the victim chased him out of the hotel.

The victim was not able to catch up to the suspect who police said was last seen running through the hotel parking lot.

No arrests were made in connection with the incident by Tuesday morning.
