Horry County police are investigating reports of students at Carolina Forest High School regarding pornographic photographs being shared in text messages, authorities said.

Horry County police Capt. Dale Buchanan said Thursday that the investigation continued into the incidents.

Horry County officers were called at 10:50 a.m. Sept. 4 about the alleged pornographic pictures and went to the school to investigate after administrators received a complaint from a parent, according to the police report. The parent told authorities that some boys at school said they had an inappropriate photo of her daughter.

An investigation showed the photo was not of the person’s daughter, but authorities began to question where the photos came from, police said.

After looking through cellphone photos for the picture that was originally in question, school authorities said they found images on two students’ cellphones, and police said the students sent pornographic pictures of other unknown females to each other.

At least 35 images were sent between the two students, and school authorities called Horry County police about possible child pornography after making this discovery, according to the report.

The case was then forwarded to Horry County’s Crime Investigation Department, and Buchanan said other students were found to be in possession of pornographic images since the initial report, but he could not say how many students were involved.

No arrests had been made in connection with reports of the incidents by Thursday morning, but Buchanan said the investigation is ongoing.
