Police chase man who reportedly had drugs on him
A 30-year-old man was arrested in connection with drug charges and resisting arrest after authorities said he ran from police during a routine search after marijuana was found in his pants pocket, according to a police report.
Police said they also found a bag of MDMA that belonged to the man.
Joey Levern Cunningham, 30, is charged with simple possession of marijuana, loitering for the purposes of drug trafficking, and resisting arrest and was being held at the Myrtle Beach Jail on $1,351 bond on Tuesday morning, according to jail records.
Myrtle Beach officers were called about 8:49 p.m. Monday to the Super 8 hotel at 3450 U.S. 17 after getting a report of possible drug activity, authorities said.
Police said when they arrived at the hotel Cunningham was sitting on a wall, but started to walk across the street as officers approached him.
Authorities got Cunningham’s consent to search him, and said they discovered a bag containing .06 grams of marijuana in his front pants pocket, police said.
Officers said Cunningham then pulled away from them and ran northbound on Macklin Road, and police chased after him. Authorities said they saw a white plastic bag in Cunningham’s hand as he was running.
Cunningham jumped over a fence, and police said they caught up with him, and he was taken into custody.
Police said they recovered the white plastic bag that they said they saw in Cunningham’s hand and said it contained 7.2 grams of MDMA.
