Conway police arrest 8 people on drug charges

Conway police arrested eight people Saturday after an officer smelled marijuana coming from a building.

The people from Conway arrested are: Carmine Beaty, 34; Ronald Conwell, 29; Martin Bodger, 22; Troy Phillips, 30; and Tevin Speights, 23.

The people from Myrtle Beach arrested are: Walter Bell, 52; Jaron Beaty, 32; and Ronnell Stilwell, 29.

All eight people are charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute within close proximity to a public park and possession of schedule II drug, according to Lt. Selena Small with Conway police.

An officer was on patrol near 1518 Fourth Avenue in Conway Saturday when the officer detected a strong odor of something similar to marijuana coming from the building, Small said. The officer discovered approximately 3.7 pounds of a substance believed to be marijuana along with $7,200 in cash, Small said.

Both the marijuana substance and the cash were seized. The suspects were taken to J. Reuben Detention Center, Small said.

Bodger, Phillips, Speights and Bell remain jailed Monday night.
