Suspect wanted in connection with murder arrested Saturday
A Myrtle Beach murder suspect, who was at large for nearly three weeks, was arrested Saturday morning, according to Myrtle Beach Jail records.
Damiean Lamont Cantey, 36, whose hometown was not listed, was arrested in connection with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, records show.
Cantey was wanted in connection to a murder on Collins Street in Myrtle Beach earlier this month, police said.
Details of Cantey’s arrest were not available Saturday morning.
Dominick Goodwin, 23, of Myrtle Beach, was killed in a shooting the evening of Aug. 10, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner, Darris Fowler.
Officers were called about 7:20 p.m. Aug. 10 after an unarmed Goodwin died of a gunshot he suffered in front of an apartment building on Collins Street, off Broadway Street, authorities said.
Myrtle Beach police arrested one man in connection to the murder soon afterward, and declared Cantey a wanted suspect in connection with the crime also, police said.
Christopher Columbus White III, 30, of Kingstree, was charged Aug. 13 for murder in connection to the shooting, according to Lt. Joey Crosby with Myrtle Beach police.
White, along with others, allegedly assaulted Goodwin in front of the apartment building, causing Goodwin to die of a gunshot wound, the arrest warrants for White said.
When police arrived on scene, they questioned White, who initially denied any knowledge of the incident, warrants said. Police later learned White was injured and concealing his injury with a hat; once confronted by police White removed his hat to reveal several lacerations to his head.
White told police the injuries occurred at a different location but could not state exactly where, police said. Investigators found White had received those injuries at the incident location, “and he hid that information and his injuries from police,” warrants said.
White is also charged with obstructing justice. He remains in J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $10,000 bond for that charge, and his bond in connection with the murder charge was not set as of Saturday morning, according to jail records.
Cantey was being held at the Myrtle Beach Jail on Saturday morning, and his bond had not been set, according to records.
