$25 loan leads to an altercation outside a Myrtle Beach store

Myrtle Beach police are investigating a physical altercation that allegedly started over a $25 loan.

About 9:30 Saturday morning, a victim said he was assaulted after asking his friend to pay back the loan. The Sun News only identifies suspects if they have formally been charged with a crime.

The victim said that his friend had borrowed the money from him and never returned it.

According to the police report, the victim told police that he saw his friend leaving a store in the 600 block of North Kings Highway and yelled at him asking for $20 back of the $25 loan.

The victim shock his head and walked back inside the store, according to the report.

The victim told police he waited outside the store and when his friend came back out he asked, “Why are you approaching me like that? You know I’m going to pay you.” The victim replied, “Don’t worry about it,” and turned away, according to the report.

As the victim turned away, the suspect allegedly punched the him in the face and fled the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
