North Myrtle Beach worker accused of banking thousands by selling city-owned phones
A City of North Myrtle Beach employee was arrested after allegedly embezzling more than $30,000 by stealing and selling cell phones and laptops belonging to the city.
Carlton Michael Simmons, 30, of Conway, was charged Friday by North Myrtle Beach Police with embezzlement of public funds.
It was discovered that Simmons sold at least 70 cell phones, laptop and electronic accessories owned by the city to pawn shops, on Facebook Marketplace and Amazon from April 2025 through June 2026, according to an incident report.
Simmons was an IT technician employed by the city.
Simmons was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center where he was released on a $10,000 bond.
